My story with modesty.
Maryam’s journey as a new Muslim directly inspired the creation of Modesty Muslimah, bridging the gap between high-quality, full coverage and effortless, affordable elegance.
The Frustration in the Fitting Room
As a revert embracing Islam, Maryam quickly discovered that shopping at mainstream retail stores was an exercise in frustration. She was excited to express her faith through her wardrobe, but found herself constantly struggling to assemble a look that felt both modest and like her.
The Cheap Fabric Problem: Mall racks were full of flimsy, semi-sheer materials that lost their shape after one wash or clung uncomfortably in the heat.
The Layering Trap: Adding three layers to cover up sheer sleeves or high leg slits made her outfits feel bulky and hot.
The Revert Learning Curve: Navigating what worked together was overwhelming, and when she did find well-made modest pieces, they often came with high price tags that made building a brand-new wardrobe difficult.
After another discouraging shopping trip trying to find a dress for an upcoming gathering, Maryam decided it was time to stop piecing together incomplete outfits and start creating real solutions.
Designing for Real Muslim Women
Driven by her own experience of converting and looking for reliable modest wear, Maryam set out to design clothing tailored specifically to the needs of modern Muslim women—focusing on effortless, single-piece modesty that felt luxurious without breaking the bank:
Premium, Fully Lined Fabrics: She shifted away from paper-thin materials, prioritizing high-grade Nida, smooth satin, wrinkle-resistant polyester crepe, and bamboo blends. She ensured every piece was fully lined so women could wear them with confidence—no extra slips required.
Elegance Meets Everyday Wear: Rather than overwhelming, boxy shapes, Maryam incorporated smocked bodices, graceful ruffle sleeves, ruched detailing, and wrap-front silhouettes that flatter while staying completely modest.
Versatile Essentials: She expanded into coordinating luxury Medina silk hijabs, cozy ribbed knit sweater abayas for cooler months, and flowing chiffon maxi dresses suited for both daily wear and special occasions.
